Stone County Deputy Coroner Wayne Flurry said he went through a Mexican Consulate to help identify a man who died after he was trapped inside his car in a single-vehicle crash.

Flurry said that 27-year-old Luis Antonio Dominguez Cruz had no family in Mississippi and authorities had two possible names for the victim, who died after a crash in Wiggins late Sunday night.

Police Chief Matt Barnett said Cruz was driving a car when it struck an embankment.

Cruz was taken by helicopter to a Hattiesburg hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Police said Cruz’s passenger suffered a broken back and remains hospitalized.

Barnett said the crash remains under investigation.
