Prosecutors: Husband won’t face charges

Prosecutors say a Jackson businessman will not face charges in a fatal traffic wreck that sent his wife to prison for 18 years.
Karen Irby was sentenced Tuesday for causing a 2009 head-on crash in Jackson that killed Dr. Mark Pogue and his fiancee, Dr. Lisa Dedousis. Prosecutors say she was speeding and had alcohol in her system.
Some relatives called for Irby’s husband, Stuart Irby, to be indicted, citing a victims’ meeting in which Karen Irby told them that her husband had punched her and was pulling her hair when the wreck occurred.
Assistant District Attorney Patrick Beasley says prosecutors don’t give much credence to the reported statement.
Irby pleaded guilty to two counts of culpable negligence manslaughter.
