Southern Miss is asking the State College Board for the to look into the feasibility of building a 950-bed residence hall on the Hattiesburg campus.
The estimated project would cost $50 million. The project initiative, which is expected to be voted on Thursday, would require the demolition of 3 existing dorms to make room for the new building.
Bond Hall East, Vann Hall, and Scott Hall were all built in the 1960s. Under the university’s master plan adopted a few years ago, the new residence hall would replace those three and create a student resident corridor from the Thad Cochran Center to the new Century Park Village under construction.
