The Starkville School Board has approved a dress code for students.
The board on Tuesday agreed to a mandatory policy that specifies the types of shirts, pants and other clothing students will be allowed to wear.
Each school would determine clothing colors.
Schools Superintendent Judy Couey had said that research has shown uniforms to decrease disciplinary issues and improve student concentration.
Couey said Tuesday that uniforms were one portion of a safety plan the district is currently addressing. Other proposes under study include identification badges, school resource officers, locked doors and fences.
