Authorities say a Jackson County man jailed over the weekend is accused of beating his girlfriend with a chair.
Deputies said that 31-year-old Nicholas F. Ates was arrested Sunday and charged with domestic violence by aggravated assault.
The arrest occurred shortly after sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a fight between Ates and his 30-year-old girlfriend.
The victim told authorities that Ates had repeatedly beat her with a chair. The woman suffered injuries that sent her to an area hospital for treatment.
The investigation is continuing. Ates was taken to the Jackson County jail pending a bond hearing.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Ates has an attorney.
