A fatal accident occurred on Burgetown Road Wednesday night.
The accident involved the death of 33 year-old Shannon Sharpe of 16 Rue Shae, Carriere.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier said that night at about 10:30, Sharpe was heading west on Burgetown Road when her vehicle left the roadway striking a pole near Roger Penton Road.
The vehicle flipped several times, partially ejecting Sharpe from the vehicle. As a result of her injuries Sharpe was pronounced dead on scene, Saucier said.
Witness statements indicated that Sharpe’s vehicle was the only one on the road at that time. Investigation into the incident shows Sharpe was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.
County Coroner Derek Turnage said Sharpe’s cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the head.
As with all fatal accidents, toxicology tests are being performed, Saucier said.
