UPDATE — Beware of burglary scheme in Picayune

A press release from the Picayune Police Department states that there have been burglary scheme attempts occurring recently in the city.

The release states that the unidentified suspects will approach a home and pretend to be a city contractor. They claim that the city will be installing underground wiring in the area, and ask the residents to escort them to the rear property line. The suspect then says that their partner will come around in about ten minutes to mark the rear property line with orange flags. While the residents are outside, another suspect makes entry into the residence and steals any items of value.

Deputy Chief David Ervin said there have been two reported incidents of this scheme. One of the attempts was successful while the second was unsuccessful because the resident became suspicious of the suspects and would not exit his home.

The suspect who posed as a contractor is described as a middle – aged white female, about 5’ 8”, with blonde hair, wearing a hat and large sunglasses. The other suspect is only known as a white male. The pair was driving a white van, and another large newer model truck may also be involved. If anyone has information regarding this incident or observes any suspicious activity involving these individuals, they are asked to call the Picayune Police Department immediately at 601-798-7411.
