UPDATE — Beware of burglary scheme in Picayune

Published 4:20 pm Thursday, February 25, 2010

A press release from the Picayune Police Department states that there have been burglary scheme attempts occurring recently in the city.

The release states that the unidentified suspects will approach a home and pretend to be a city contractor. They claim that the city will be installing underground wiring in the area, and ask the residents to escort them to the rear property line. The suspect then says that their partner will come around in about ten minutes to mark the rear property line with orange flags. While the residents are outside, another suspect makes entry into the residence and steals any items of value.

Deputy Chief David Ervin said there have been two reported incidents of this scheme. One of the attempts was successful while the second was unsuccessful because the resident became suspicious of the suspects and would not exit his home.
