A court date has been moved back to Jan. 19 for a former Mississippi congressman and a youth-league soccer coach who are accusing each other of simple assault from an incident last weekend.
The Clarion-Ledger reports the attorneys for former U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering and coach Chris Hester met 45 minutes Friday with Madison Municipal Judge Dale Danks Jr.
A court date for Pickering and Hester was moved back five days.
Mike Malouf Jr., one of Pickering’s attorneys, calls Friday’s meeting “very productive.” He says Pickering and Hester could try to resolve differences outside the courtroom. Hester’s attorney, Mac McCool, says the misdemeanor charges still might go to before the judge.
Hester and Pickering scuffled Sunday after a soccer game for 10- and 11-year-old boys. Each is out on $500 bond.
