‘Skit’ish thespians perform for students

On Wednesday, October 28 members of one of Mrs. Deborah Craig’s Pearl River Central High School speech classes presented “Pandora and the Bug Box Rock” to the first and second graders at Pearl River Central Lower Elementary for Red Ribbon Week.

During Red Ribbon Week the students were reminded about the hazards of using tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. The school uses different ways to present this information to the students. The theme this year was “I’m Bugged by Drugs.”

Mrs. Craig and her students always have creative ideas and this year they wrote the skit, “Pandora and the Bug Box Rock.” The skit presented Pandora with her good, healthy friends playing outside. They passed the bug box that had bad bugs in it. Her good friends tried to encourage her not to open the box and let the bad bugs out, but she couldn’t resist their calling temptations.

Once the bugs got out of the box, they tried to get all the students to try their bad habits of smoking and drugs. Pandora was very sad that she let the bad bugs out and that she did not listen to the advice of her good friends. Her good friends forgave her and then used fly flaps to chase the bad bugs as they shouted, “Just say no!”

Finally, with the help of the good friends using healthy habits and encouragement, the bad bugs changed their ways and turned into beautiful butterflies. Then everyone was happy and healthy. The students really enjoyed this playful presentation.
