The city of Pascagoula plans to have the base of the Round Island Lighthouse located to the foot of the high-rise bridge on U.S. Highway 90.
The four-story 150-year-old lighthouse, when rebuilt, will greet drivers as they come over the high-rise and enter the city.
State officials on Friday approved the relocation of the lighthouse to the mainland.
City officials said that the base could be brought up the Pascagoula River and hauled to the site within a few months.
The lighthouse was toppled by Hurricane Georges in the late 1990s. The pieces have been stored in a warehouse for most of the decade.
The lighthouse was built in 1859 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
