A 19-year-old Mississippi Gulf Coast woman was driving to work Wednesday when her brakes locked and her car plunged into a river.

Luckily, two D’Iberville police officers rescued Carrie McGill from the chilly waters of the Tchoutacabouffa.

McGill said she climbed out one of the car windows.

Officer Michael Knapp happened to be checking river levels and saw the accident. He said he grabbed a life jacket and tossed it to McGill. She wrapped her arms around it just before the car pulled her under.

Officer Chris Roberts arrived as McGill resurfaced, and he swam out to pull her from the water. She says she had only cuts and bruises and was grateful to the officers.
