Medicare fraud trial postponed until March

A federal judge has postponed this month’s trial of seven people accused in a massive Medicaid and Medicare fraud.

Those charged in the case, including several doctors, worked for Statewide Physical Medicine Group Inc.

Federal authorities have seized millions of dollars in cash and property in Mississippi and Texas related to the alleged scam.

Those involved have pleaded not guilty.

The trial had been scheduled to begin this month but U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett postponed because its such a complex case.

The company billed Medicare and Medicaid for more than $39 million in services, but it’s not clear how much of that investigators believe was fraudulent.
