Chuck Mayfield has been declared the winner of the Adams County sheriff’s runoff election.

The Natchez Democrat reports Mayfield defeated Ray Brown 5,551 votes to 5,113 votes after absentee and affidavit ballots were counted and certified Monday.

Mayfield will complete the final two years of the late Ronny Brown’s term. Brown died in March.

Mayfield is the county’s youth court administrator. Brown is a county constable.

Mayfield led the Nov. 24 runoff. The Thanksgiving holiday delayed the counting of absentee and affidavit ballots until Monday.
