Joseph A. Marchand, Sr., 77, formerly of Picayune passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009 at his home.

A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with Father Mike Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in New Palestine Cemetery, under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Picayune Funeral Home on Sunday, December 6, 2009, from 6-9 p.m.

He worked as an Inventory Clerk at Kaiser Aluminum, was a volunteer fireman in Slidell, La. for 32 years and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He served in the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 as the Commissioner of the City of Slidell from November 1977-February 1981 and the Chairman from May 1981-August 1983.

He was preceded in death by: his wife of fifty-six years, Renelda Marchand; five brothers, Charles Jr., Roy, Ralph, Raymond and Harold; two sisters, Margaret Mary and Mary Louise; and one grandson, Jacob of St. Petersburg, Fla.

He is survived by: his five children, Joseph Marchand, Jr. of Poplarville, Michael Marchand of Pearl River, La., Richard Marchand of Mandeville, La., Deborah Marchand of Slidell, and David Marchand of Carriere; one brother, John Pierce Marchand of Natalbany, La.; two sisters, Rosemary Allen and Joan Marchand, both of Slidell; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home.
