The parents of a 5-year-old struck and killed by a vehicle after he got off a school bus want to push for tougher laws in such cases.

Nathan Key, a kindergartner at North Jones Elementary School, was hit Dec. 11 as he crossed the road. Authorities charged Dominic Gebben with manslaughter and felony fleeing the scene shortly after the incident.

Andy and Lori Key said that the laws for passing stopped school buses should be stronger and all buses should be equipped with cameras to help identify those who pass school buses.

Under state law, a motorist who fails to stop for a school bus faces up to a $5,000 fine and three years in prison.
