Ex-Columbia police chief indicted

The former police chief in Columbia has been indicted on two counts of false pretense and one count of embezzlement.
Joe Vann Parkman, 47 was arrested by investigators with the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office following the indictment.
The indictment alleges that on May 20, 2008 and July 17, 2008, that Parkman made false statements to the city concerning purchases. The indictment also alleges he embezzled from the city.
If convicted, he faces up to five years per count on the false pretense charges and up to 10 years on the embezzlement charge.
