Bond for a 23-year-old Laurel man charged in the death of a 5-year-old kindergartner has been set at $1 million.

Justice Court Judge Howell Beech said on Monday he set the bond high for Dominic Gebben because he could be a flight risk.

Gebben is charged with manslaughter-culpable negligence and felony fleeing following a Friday accident that killed Nathan Key.

Key was hit after he got off his school bus.

Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge said that Gebben was in traffic behind the bus, but pulled around it and struck the child.

The driver fled and was later found by deputies hiding in a wooded area.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Gebben has an attorney.
