Police say the death of 54-year-old Michael Surber of Ocean Springs has been ruled a homicide.

Police Lt. John Flowers said Sunday an autopsy performed Saturday confirmed the cause of death but investigators did not release that information.

Friends of Surber called police to get inside his home on Thursday night after seeing his motionless body through a window.

Flowers said investigators have been trying to piece together Surber’s activities in the days leading up to his death.

Gulfport police also are assisting in the investigation.
