St, MARTIN — Picayune’s basketball teams split a pair of games Monday night before embarking on their Thanksgiving break.

The Lady Tide moved to 6-2 on the year with a 46-30 win, while the Tide fell by a point in overtime, 48-47.

Picayune’s girls jumped out to a quick lead and used a solid defensive effort to cruise to the win.

“It was the best performance defensively we have had all season,” Picayune first year head coach Jason Kennedy said. “The girls really got after it.”

Andrea Jackson hit two straight 3-pointers to open the game, and the Lady Tide never trailed.

Jackson finished with 17 points in the win, while Arriana McGill added 11.

The Maroon Tide fought back from a double digit first half deficit to send the game into overtime.

“we clamped down on defense in the third period and got back into the game,” Picayune’s Tom Taylor said. The Tide trailed 15-5 early and 32-23 at halftime, but outscore the Yellow Jackets 14-6 in the third frame to rally.

But the home team nailed an early 3-pointer in the extra session to take a lead and hold off the Tide.

Vince Gable had a game high 23 for Picayune, and Marcus Rawls added 13.

The Maroon Tide is now 3-4 on the year.

Both Picayune teams are off until a week from Friday, when they host Laurel on Dec. 4th.
