Mr. John Henry “Kato” Gray was born November 11, 1953 to the late Roman Robert and Isbella Bettis Gray. John departed this life October 30, 2009 in the VA Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

He was a 1971 graduate of George Washington Carver High School. John was a United States Army Veteran.

He united in marriage to Barbara Taylor of Columbia, S.C. To this union one daughter was born, Jasmine Gray.

John was preceded in death by: his father and mother, Roman Robert and Isabella Gray; and grandparents.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Barbara Taylor Gray of Columbia; mother, Beverly Gray of Picayune; one daughter, Jasmine Taylor and one step-son, Maurice Taylor, both of Columbia; six brothers, Robert Gray of Gulfport, Miss., Jeffery (Dorothy) Gray, Al Gray and Brent (Michelle) Gray all of Picayune; Dexter (Jatonne) Gray of Stuttgart, Germany and Montray Gray of Palmdale, Calif.; two sisters, Patricia McQueen of Chicago, Ill. and Wanda (Terry) Beasley of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
