Entergy Mississippi Inc. says its electricity rates could be 11 percent lower during the first three months of 2010 than they were for the same period this year.
The company said Tuesday it had filed its fuel cost adjustment report with the state Public Service Commission. The regulators are expected to approve the lower rates.
The PSC evaluates utilities’ fuel purchases to ensure customers get the least expensive, most reliable fuel available. The companies are not allowed to earn a profit on fuel costs.
Entergy says the falling price of natural gas means electricity customers could pay their lowest rates in six years. The company serves 45 Mississippi counties and is a subsidiary of New Orleans-based Entergy Corp.
