2 sentenced in vet nursing home case

Two Jackson men have pleaded guilty to charges of taking advantage of residents at the State Veterans Home.

Attorney General Jim Hood says Gregory McCarty and Jeremy Sykes entered the pleas Monday in Hinds County Circuit Court.

Hoods says McCarty pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy, two counts of uttering counterfeit instruments, and two counts of aiding and abetting the uttering of counterfeit instruments. McCarty will serve nine years.

Sykes pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and four counts of aiding and abetting the uttering of counterfeit instruments. Sykes was sentenced to five years on each count but the sentence was suspended.

Hood says Sykes worked at the State Veterans Home and was friends with McCarty.
