Welty Weekend at MUW

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Mississippi native Natasha Trethewey will deliver the opening address Thursday for the 2009 Eudora Welty Writers’ Symposium at Mississippi University for Women.

The Welty Weekend runs through Saturday on the MUW campus in Columbus. Trethewey, author of “Native Guard,” will be joined by 12 other writers during the conference.

Trethewey will deliver the opening address at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Nissan Auditorium in Parkinson Hall at MUW.

The theme for the symposium is “Time Goes Like a Dream No Matter How Hard You Run,” taken from Eudora Welty’s short story “A Shower of Gold” from her collection The Golden Apples.
