Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd says a grand jury will hear evidence in a shooting that happened Monday at a St. Martin pier, but it’s likely a case of self-defense.
Clayton Corey Obarr told investigators he shot a man who attacked him with a baseball bat while trying to rob him about 2 a.m. Monday at Fountain Pier on Racetrack Drive.
Byrd said 45-year-old Marc D. Marques turned up later at Biloxi Regional Hospital with gunshot wounds to the arm and chest.
The sheriff said that Marques, who has a lengthy criminal record, could be charged with aggravated assault when he recovers.
Obarr wasn’t charged in the shooting, but he was arrested at the scene for probation violation involving a domestic violence case.
