Miller loses appeal in coach slaying

The state Court of Appeals has upheld conviction of Frederick Miller Jr. for accessory after the fact of murder in the 2006 slaying of McAdams High School basketball coach Chad Jackson.

Jackson was shot in the head Nov. 1, 2006, near Kosciusko. His SUV was found crashed into a tree off Mississippi Highway 19.

Miller, then 17, was convicted in 2008 in Attala County and sentenced to five years in prison with 18 months to serve and 42 months of post-release supervision.

The Appeals Court this past week rejected Miller’s claims that his case should have been handled in youth court. The Appeals Court said Miller was charged with a felony outside jurisdiction of the youth court.
