Heavy rains cut into Mississippi soybeans

Heavy rains during the last two weeks of September have robbed Mississippi soybean growers of strong yields and high quality.

That’s the word from experts at Mississippi State University.

Soybean specialist Trey Koger says average yield losses are running 5 percent to 10 percent. Overall damage is running from 2 percent to 80 percent

Koger says about 35 percent of the soybean crop in Mississippi has been harvested. Typically the harvest is 80 percent complete by early October.
