Gloria Jean Jenkins

On the morning of Thursday, October 22, 2009 God called home an angel. Gloria Jean Jenkins was born on December 24, 1956 in Edwards, MS, to manuel and Shirley Coleman. Gloria confessed Christ at an early age and joined, the Morning Star Baptist in Learned, MS, under the leadership of Rev. R.W. West. she later joined the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Joey Marks.

Gloria attended Picayune Memorial High School, and she was later employed by Hide-A-Way Lake Lodge. She was joined in marriage to the late Mr. Carl Jenkins, and to this union four children were born. She Was preceded in death by her husband Carl Jenkins, infant son Daniel Lewis, and step-father Mr. Isaiah Williams.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memories; a very special friend, Mr. Terry Tatum; three children Carl (Evon) Jenkins, Kevin (Latonya) Jenkins, and Letisha (Steve) Jenkins, all of Picayune, Miss.; a mother Mrs. Shirley Coleman-Williams, her father Mr. Manuel (Leola) Coleman, all of Picayune; one brother, Mr. Manuel (Gloria) Coleman Jr., of Picayune; four sisters Mrs. betty (William “Willie”) Fortenberry, and Mrs. Janice (William “Bill”) Jones of Slidell, La., Mrs. Frances (Terry “Ted”) Payne of Catahoula, Miss., and Mrs. Joy (Eric) Cooper of Hattiesburg, Miss. She had a half brother Mr. Craig (Stacy) Tyson of Carriere, Miss.; 11 grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Kelley will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Picayune cemetery under the directions of Brown’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday, October 31 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.
