Kappa Sigma fraternity at Mississippi State University has lost its charter.

The decision was made this past week by the fraternity’s national office.

Kappa Sigma Executive Director Mic Williams tells The Commercial Dispatch in Columbus that the MSU chapter has 30 days to appeal the decision.

Williams says if an appeal is denied, it would be two years before Kappa Sigma would be allowed to reapply open a MSU chapter.

The revocation comes less than a month after Kappa Sigma was penalized by MSU officials for alcohol violations stemming from a September party.

Williams says those violations prompted the decision to revoke the charter.

He says the MSU chapter has more than 100 members.
