Officials say a Gulfport event celebrating classic cars got off to a good start this past weekend, despite rainy weather.

Organizers told WLOX television that turnout for this years’ first Cruisin’ the Coast event suggests strong turnout for the rest of the week.

One thousand classic car owners showed off their cars at a shopping center in Gulfport and another thousand spectators came out to admire them.
