Charles Albert Usner

On Friday, October 23, 2009 Charles Albert Usner passed away in Carriere, Miss., at the age of 93 years. He was born February 10, 1916 in New Orleans, La. to Lorena Walsdorf and Frederick Joseph Usner. He married Marion Pujol in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees during World War II in the Pacific Theater. At the end of the war he partnered with his brother, David, to form Usner Brothers Sheet Metal and Roofing Company in New Orleans. After his retirement he and his beloved wife continued to live in New Orleans, but spent the majority of their time on their farm in Carriere, Mississippi, where he moved permanently after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion of 62 years, his sister Corinne Oplatek, his brothers, Merlin, David, Clarence and Frederick.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Karen Usner Hooper; his son Kenneth Usner, one granddaughter and three nieces.

Visitation will be at Byrd’s Chapel United Methodist Church at 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009, the service follows immediately at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Lake Lawn Cemetery in Metairie, La.
