The Mississippi Department of Health is confirming the fourth death related to West Nile in the state this year.

Last week, Mary Jane Faulkner said her brother, 64-year-old Britt Thomas, died at Greenwood Leflore Hospital after contracting West Nile.

The Health Department didn’t mention Thomas by name, but confirmed Monday that someone in Leflore County had died from West Nile.

Previous deaths were in Forrest, Lee and Washington counties.

The state’s total to number of cases rose to 46.
