Walter Dewell Johnson

Walter Dewell Johnson, 88, of Toms River, N.J. passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Son of the late William and Rachel (Gipson) Johnson, he was born in Urania, La., and was raised in Picayune. After graduating from Carriere High School, Dewell enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve in both WWII and Korea. He owned several barber shops in New Jersey and also retired after 33 years as a school bus driver for Toms River Regional Schools.
He was predeceased by: his wife, Lena Seaman; and his son, Walter D., Jr. He was also predeceased by: his sisters, Ada Young Hayden and Agnes Bounds; and a brother, Richard.
Surviving are: his son, Eugene and wife Nancy of Beachwood, N.J.; and daughters, Alena and Eileen of Toms River. He leaves 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren to cherish his memory.
Viewing was held on Monday, September 28, 2009 at Anderson Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River, with funeral services held on Tuesday, September 29.
