A county supervisor says Panola County Sheriff Hugh “Shot” Bright has shot himself to death.

Panola County Supervisor William “Bubba” Waldrup says Bright’s body was found in Batesville on Sunday but had few other details.

Bright had been in law enforcement for more than 25 years, and Waldrup says he had served as sheriff for the last two to three years.

The sheriff’s department has scheduled a news conference Monday morning to release further details. A dispatcher says no more information would be given until then.

Waldrup says county supervisors also have a meeting Monday and more would be discussed then.

Panola County is northwestern Mississippi.
