James Edward Johnson

James Edward Johnson of Estes Park, Colo., passed away in Loveland, Colo. on July 15, 2009 after a short illness. He was born on April 30, 1935 in McNeill, Miss.

After graduating high school in Mississippi, he joined the United States Air Force where he served worldwide, with the majority of his enlistment time spent in Japan. Upon retiring to the United States, he was last stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La., and in Shreveport, La. met his future wife, Ethel Hollifield to whom he was married for 48 years.

He worked for over 30 years at and retired from the City of Shreveport as Assistant Superintendent of Public Works/Water Department. He attended LSU in Shreveport with major studies in Psychology. He moved to Estes Park in 1999 and enjoyed fishing, traveling, sports, and spending time with his family and especially his only grandchild, Sean.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Ernest Albert and Cora Frazier Johnson; a brother, Ernest Carl; and a sister, Shirley.

He will be greatly missed by: his wife, Ethel; son, Skylar and daughter-in-law Pam and grandson, Sean all of Estes Park; sister, Pearlie Lee of Picayune; special aunt, Agnes Johnson; and numerous extended family and friends.

Services are to be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Carriere on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
