Jury selection is under way in the capital murder trial of a former school teacher accused of killing a pregnant woman.
Circuit Judge William Chapman said Monday jury selection may take the better part of this week.
Twenty-eight-year-old Carla Hughes, former Jackson Public Schools teacher, is accused of killing 27-year-old Avis Banks and her unborn child on Nov. 29, 2006, in what police suspect was a love triangle involving Banks’ fiance.
Chapman said testimony at the earliest would begin late this week and the trial should take at least a week or more.
