A 31-year-old faces at least two years in prison after pleading guilty in what prosecutors call one of Mississippi’s largest identity-theft rings.
Jermaine McClure of Jackson pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated identity theft.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi says he is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 1, could be fined up to $250,000, and must pay back his victims.
A news release says McClure admitted using someone else’s state ID card to cash counterfeit checks at banks in Jackson and Vicksburg, and to make big purchases at area businesses.
It says he was linked to a ring led by Milton B. Johnson of Jackson, who is serving more than nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty in June.
