Emergency responders have found the body of a man last seen swimming in the Pearl River.

Jackson Police Department spokesman Lt. Jeffery Scott says the body of 24-year-old Johnnie Carroll Evans of Clinton was found Monday. An autopsy has been ordered.

Scott says Evans was last seen swimming with friends Sunday afternoon in the Pearl River near a Jackson water treatment plant.

A dive team and other emergency responders searched for Evans past nightfall on Sunday.

Authorities received a report at about 3 p.m. Sunday that Evans went under and did not resurface.

Scott says rescuers have not ruled out the possibility that alligators spotted in the area could have attacked Evans.
