Street Crimes working the streets

Picayune Police Department’s Street Crimes Strike Team arrested a number of suspects during an operation on Wednesday.

Chief Jim Luke said the team was working hot spot areas of the city in response to numerous complaints of illegal activities.

“We’re responding to the community complaints and hitting hot spots with the strike team,” Luke said.

During that operation, the team attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Roy Higgins Jr., 21, of 1103 Baylous St., but he fled leading the officers on a brief chase. When Higgins was caught, officers found a large amount of what is believed to be marijuana in the car along with pills believed to be ecstasy, a rifle, a shotgun and two handguns.

Investigation into the handguns discovered that one of them was stolen from a county resident, the release states. Higgins was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance while in possession of firearms, careless driving and no turn signal.

In that same operation 14 other suspects were arrested for various charges, the release states. Those suspects are;

Terryalie Nelson, 30, of 215 Second St. for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and expired tag.

Michael Gerome Nelson, 25, of 314 N. Green Ave., for possession of marijuana.

Adam Jones, 38, of 510 Coombs St., Napa, Calif. for disorderly conduct.

DeJuan Smith, 21, of 888 Herrin Dr. for carrying a concealed weapon and a contempt of court warrant.

Daniel Nuccio, 34, of 110 Eloise St., for driving while license suspended for failure to pay child support.

Darrell Christmas, 51 of 313 Third St. for four contempt of court warrants.

Amah Bolden, 19, of 221 Jarrell St. for a contempt of court warrant.

Earnestine Carter, 68, of 704 Snyder Lane for possession of paraphernalia.

Daniel Magee, 30, of 926 Clover Circle for simple assault/domestic violence, malicious mischief and harassing phone call warrants.

Jazzion Hall, 19, of 315 Fanie Ave. for possession of marijuana.

Malik Davis, 21, of 4653 Grand Central Parkway, Conyers, Ga. for possession of paraphernalia.

Jameon Smith, age undetermined of 811 Jarrell St., on a narcotics warrant held by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office.

Joe Lee McCormick, 36, of 221 S. Abrams Ave. on a warrant held by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Christopher Scott Mickel, 40, of 601 Jarrell St. for disorderly conduct and possession of paraphernalia.
