The state College Board will name its picks this week for the next commissioner of higher education and the next University of Mississippi chancellor.

Board members expect to announce their selections for “preferred candidates” for the positions Tuesday afternoon.

Finalists still under consideration for the posts have not been named because the board’s search process is confidential.

Only the preferred candidate for each post will be named, and the board will vote whether to officially hire those candidates likely in mid-June after a series of meetings with campus constituents.

The board search committees completed second-round interviews of finalists for each post last week.
