Officials with the First United Methodist Church in New Albany say a member of a youth group went missing over the weekend during a visit to Costa Rica.

The Rev. Jerry Beam, superintendent for the New Albany District of the United Methodist Church, says 17-year-old Marshuan Braxton was standing with other youths on some rocks looking at the Pacific Ocean when a large wave crashed on them Sunday evening.

Of the four, Beam says three made it back to shore.

The group of 15 youths and adults were in Costa Rica doing mission work.

Beam says his office was talking with Costa Rican authorities and the U.S. Embassy to monitor the situation. He says the mission trip has been canceled and the group was returning home.
