Motion filed in McComb acting police chief fight

A Pike County judge is scheduled to hear arguments Monday for a temporary restraining order and injunction seeking to force McComb Mayor Zach Patterson to reinstate Greg Martin as the city’s acting police chief.

Patterson suspended Martin on May 11 for insubordination, but the McComb Civil Service Commission on Wednesday said Martin’s suspension and subsequent demotion to assistant chief were invalid. The commission found the suspension and demotion were “made for political reasons, not in good faith or for cause.”

The commission’s decision was upheld by the McComb board of selectmen.

McComb attorney John Ott immediately filed a motion seeking the temporary restraining order and the injunction. The motion says Martin was prevented Friday from taking office.
