During a stop in New Hampshire, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford’s resignation as chairman of the Republican Governors Association won’t distract the group from its mission.

Sanford, who admitted Wednesday to having an affair, resigned his position with the governors group, bumping up Barbour from incoming to outright chairman.

Barbour, who was speaking at a New Hampshire Republican Party fundraiser, told reporters he won’t comment on Sanford’s personal problems. But he says the governor’s association remains focused on rebuilding the party and electing Republican governors.
