Bunge-Ergon Vicksburg Inc. is seeking a tax exemption for about $3.6 million worth of ethanol shipped out of Mississippi.
The company’s plant at the Port of Vicksburg has an estimated output of 54 million gallons of ethanol per year. The free port tax exemption would save Bunge-Ergon $67,748.
The company has asked both the city of Vicksburg and Warren County for the exemption.
Nancy Thomas, the city’s attorney, says the company is asking for a tax exemption on 58 percent of its total inventory of over $6.3 million.
