Council member Anna Turnage said she has contested the race held last Tuesday on the basis that some voters in her precinct were possibly denied the right to vote.

A meeting between Turnage, the Republican Executive Committee and possibly Turnage’s lawyer was scheduled for Monday afternoon. Further information concerning the outcome of the meeting was not available at press time Monday.

Turnage was behind by only two votes in the race against candidate Jason Todd Lane during last week’s election. She said preliminary information leads her to believe that voters were listed on the wrong precinct books. Residents who lived in precinct 3 were listed on books in precinct 1. The number of those voters inaccurately listed is unavailable at this time.

The runoff for Democratic mayoral candidates Mark Thorman and Ezell Lee will be May 19. The general election will be June 2.
