Tide ends spring drills

Even though it was in the spring and not the fall, Picayune’s football team certainly enjoyed their latest trip to D’Iberville much more than their previous one.

The Maroon Tide beat the Warriors 27-3 last week to wrap up spring drills. D’Iberville, which lost in the Class 4A state championship game to Noxubee County in December, beat the Tide in Warrior Stadium 49-21 last season.

“It gives us something positive to build on going into the off season,” veteran Picayune head coach Dodd Lee said. “There were a lot of positives, but we’ve got plenty of things to work on as well. We’ve got a lot of room for improvement.”

Jamal Hall scored three rushing touchdowns for Picayune in the win.

“I thought our backs did a really good job, as did our offensive line,” Lee added.

Lee cited offensive linemen Brandon Lee, Deambry Jackson, Robbie Bender and Kresean Bowens for their efforts during the spring sessions.

He also singled out linebacker Jarrod Jones and safety Wayne McMooain on defense. Both of those players also see time on offense, and Jones is one of those running backs Lee spoke highly of as is fullback Joel Davis. Quarterback Jacob Kennedy, who also accounted for a score in the game, returns to guide the offense after starting every game for the Maroon Tide last season.

“Hopefully that will be a big plus for us, having the same guys behind center for two straight years,” Lee concluded.
