A 37-year-old Picayune woman died early Monday morning in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 11 in Nicholson.
Cpl. Johnny Poulos of the Mississippi State Police said Classie Spann was traveling northbound on U.S. 11 at 5:45 a.m. when her 2002 Cadillac DeVille crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1990 Nissan pick-up truck driven by Daniel Hidalgo, also of Picayune.
The accident occurred just south of the Chevron station.
Poulos said Spann was pronounced dead at the scene and that Hildago was transported to Highland Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.
Poulos said it was not known at this time if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the accident.
Poulos also reported that two juveniles were arrested Sunday and charged with throwing rocks from the train trestle spanning Interstate 59 at the one mile marker.
He said the department had been receiving numerous complaints of rocks and objects being thrown from the trestle, cracking a number of windshields. As a result, the state police placed more patrols in the area and that is when the two juveniles were spotted by a trooper shortly after several more incidents of broken windshields from the thrown rocks had been reported.
Poulos said the two youths were arrested and then transported to the Forrest County Juvenile Detention Center.
