The Mississippi Public Service Commission has begun an investigation of unsolicited telemarketing calls that warn people their automobile warranties are expiring and offer to sell them new service plans.

Public Service Commissioner Leonard Bentz says the calls are violating state law and the PSC has entered into an investigation with the Federal Trade Commission of car warranty telemarketers.

Bentz said the PSC has held a hearing regarding some of the alleged violations, but the telemarketers in question didn’t show up for the proceedings.

He said the PSC has contacted the attorney general’s office for assistance in retaining a restraining order that will require them to cease and desist all calls.
