Local teams wrap up spring

Spring training wrapped up for three area prep football squads on Friday night as they participated in spring training scrimmages.

Picayune traveled to D’Iberville in a re-match of one of the biggest Class 4A regular season games in South Mississippi last season and the Maroon Tide came away with a 27-3 win.

The Warriors handed the Tide a loss last season and en route to the Class 4A South state championship before falling to Noxubee County in the state title game.

Also on Friday, Hancock hosted Gautier and the Hawks were impressive in taking a 41-12 win. Hancock will move up to the new Class 6A this season.

Poplarville met Tylertown and Dexter each in a half of action on Friday in Tylertown. The Hornets fell to Tylertown 14-12 and lost to Dexter 28-0.

On Thursday, Pearl River Central got things started for the local teams as the Blue Devils hosted East Central.

PRC beat East Central 14-7 to wrap up their drills.
