Rep. Kelvin Buck of Holly Springs has been named chairman of the Universities and Colleges Committee.

House Speaker Billy McCoy announced the appointment Wednesday.

The committee had been led by Democrat Rep. Charles Young of Meridian, who died April 29.

Buck, a Democrat, had been serving as the committee’s vice chairman. McCoy named Rep. Toby Barker, R-Hattiesburg, as vice chairman.
