Adams Co. damage not caused by tornado

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service have determined that damage in Adams County from Sunday’s storm was not caused by a tornado.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Dave Hamrick said debris he examined indicates the damage was caused by intense downburst winds. Hamrick likened the downburst to water being poured on a table.

Hamrick said those fast moving winds account for widespread and sporadic damage.

Homes and businesses in 18 counties received damage from the weekend severe weather that brought strong winds, heavy rains and flash flood warnings to much of the state.

About 48 homes and a dozen businesses had some damage in Adams County.
